New Life

Deus, in adjutorium meum intende. Domine, ad adjuvandum me festina.
O God, come to my assistance. O Lord, make haste to help me.

  August 30, 2012 welcomed into the world my 20th great-grandchild. That includes step-greatgrandchildren if anyone is counting.  # 1 son -  of my #1 son -  and his darling wife are proud parents of a second daughter. They have a big brother to watch out for them. I saw pictures of her on facebook and she's beautiful - of course.  

   I love the pictures of new babies. The miracle of their births never ceases to put me in awe of God's love for his creatures. He doesn't need us to be complete. He is complete in Himself. He is Love itself; and in His love FOR Himself, He wants to share it with us. He has made us "in His image and likeness,"  in the form of our immortal souls.

   We can do no more than to return that love and to realize that the gift of life is just that - a gift. God intends that we take the gift and cherish it. He wants us to someday bring His gift, ourselves, back to Him and to share His everlasting gift of happiness in His Kingdom. Only He can take that gift from us or withhold it in the first place, for His own eternal reasons.  We can throw it away through our sinfulness, refusing His friendship and condemning ourselves to eternal darkness.

   Does God weep? I know that Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in His humanity wept. I know that His Blessed Mother wept. God must weep to see the human sacrifice to Satan that is the abomination of abortion. Millions - how terrible to think of the number - millions of babies have been brutally murdered, the gift of their life snuffed before they have a chance to realize the extent of that gift.

   How many children, too, have been prevented from even the chance to be formed because of the selfishness of couples who want the good life and no "complications?"  How many children are tossed away, abused, killed, live in foster homes or on the streets around the world because of people who have no moral compass and are throwing away their own gift? 

   Adam's sin subjected us all to a fallen nature. God sent His only Son to redeem that fallen nature and to lift us up. He still wants us to love Him, to serve Him and to be happy with Him forever in Heaven. "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you." He knows us. He loves us. He knows each baby that comes into the world. He gives us generation after generation of humanity and never gives up on us. It is we who give up on ourselves, refuse to take care of our own gift and deny the gift to others that God in His Love continues to offer.

   Welcome to the world, little girl. Your journey may be hard or easy. As long as you know that your life is a gift to be cherished, that you are a temple of the Holy Ghost, you will grow in grace and love for the Almighty God who made you.
