The Way of the Cross: Thirteenth Station

Deus, in adjutorium meum intende. Domine, ad adjuvandum me festina.
O God, come to my assistance. O Lord, make haste to help me.

In the Mass for today, the Epistle is from Kings17: 17-24, and tells of the child raised from the dead by Elias.  The Gospel is John 11: 1-45, wherein Our Lord raises Lazarus after four days from the dead. It seems fitting, since the Thirteenth Station records Jesus is taken down from the cross.  He who raised Lazarus, the son of the widow of Naim, the daughter of Jairus, will of course, raise Himself from the dead. But still, even knowing, as only His mother would know, that He would rise on the third day, what must have been her feelings at this moment. Relieved that the awful suffering was over, but loathe to let Him go from her in this way, it must still have been heart-wrenching. What must have been her feeling when He was laid in her arms, bruised, bloody, lifeless.

The Thirteenth Station: Jesus is taken down from the Cross and placed in the Arms of His
 Mother.

We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee,
Because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world.

Consider that Our Lord having expired, two of His disciples, Joseph and Nicodemus, took Him down from the cross and placed Him in the arms of His afflicted Mother, who received Him with unutterable tenderness and pressed Him to her bosom.

O Mother of Sorrow, for the love of this Son, accept me for thy servant, and pray to Him for me. And Thou, my Redeemer, since Thou hast died for me, permit me to love Thee; for I wish but Thee, my Jesus, and I repent of ever having offended Thee. Never permit me to offend Thee again. Grant that I may love Thee always and then do with me what Thou wilt.

                                           Our Father....Hail Mary....Glory Be....

Lord Jesus, crucified,
Have mercy on us!

Let me mingle tears with thee,
Mourning Him Who mourned for me,
All the days that I may live.
