The Way of the Cross: Fourteenth Station

Deus, in adjutorium meum intende. Domine, ad adjuvandum me festina.
O God, come to my assistance. O Lord, make haste to help me.

As Jesus is laid in the tomb at this last of the fourteen stations, we, as the disciples, who still did not fully grasp what Our Lord had told them, and hid themselves away, hide ourselves in our pride. We still do not fully comprehend what this event has done for us. We say that we believe, we say that we are grateful for the Savior. We say that we are His friends. But, when the stone is rolled in front of the sepulchre, we walk away and soon go about our business, overcome by the world,  in effect hiding our souls from what we need, consolation in the anticipation of the Resurrection and living a life worthy of the Death of the Lord.

St. Teresa of Jesus wrote this: christians, this is the hour to defend your King and to keep Him company in the profound isolation in which He finds Himself. How few, o Lord, are the servants who remain faithful to You! The worst of it is that there are some who profess to be Your friends in public, but who sell You in secret. You can scarcely find one in whom you can trust, oh my God, true friend, how badly does he repay you who betrays You.

O true Christians, come to weep with your God! It was Not only over Lazarus that he shed tears of compassion, but over all those who, in spite of His call, would never rise from the dead. At that time, my Love, You saw even the sins that I would commit against You. May they be at an end, and with them, those of all sinners.

The Fourteenth Station: Jesus is laid in the Sepulchre

We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee,
Because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world.

Consider that the disciples carried the body of Jesus to bury it, accompanied by His holy Mother, who arranged it in the sepulchre with her own hands. They then closed the tomb, and all withdrew.

Ah, my buried Jesus, I kiss the stone that encloses Thee. But Thou didst rise again the third day. I beseech Thee, by Thy resurrection, make me rise glorious with Thee at the Last Day to be always united with Thee in heaven to praise Thee and love Thee forever. I love Thee, and I repent of ever having offended Thee. never permit me to offend Thee again Grant that i may love Thee always, and then do with me what Thou wilt.

                                         Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be

Lord Jesus, crucified,
Have mercy on us!

By the cross with thee to stay.
There with thee to weep and pray,
Is all I ask of thee to give.
