The Way of the Cross: Seventh Station

Deus, adjutorium meum intende. Domine, ad adjuvandum me festina.
O God, come to my assistance. O Lord, make haste to help me.

Sometimes my heart is so heavy, my mind won't cooperate. Yesterday was like that. I just couldn't put hand to keyboard.  I thought, though, about the seventh station and Christ's second fall on the way to Calvary.  Each fall represents to me another weight  added to the cross, overwhelming Our Lord, in unbelievable pain and weak from loss of blood.  How His heart must have been pounding, His breathing labored, as He struggled under the increasing weight of our sins, past, present and to come. The Sacred Heart of Jesus is still being broken by us, with sacrilege, blasphemy, insults, and even worse - rejection. Every sin is a repudiation of His supreme sacrifice on our behalf.

The Seventh Station: Jesus Falls the Second Time

We adore Thee, O Christ and we praise Thee,
Because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world.

Consider the second fall of Jesus under the cross - a fall which renews the pains of all the wounds  of the head and members of our afflicted Lord.

My most gentle Jesus, how many times Thou hast pardoned me, and how many times have I fallen again, and begun again to offend Thee! Oh, by the merits of this new fall, give me the necessary helps to persevere in Thy grace until death. Grant that in all temptations which assail me I may always commend myself to Thee. I love Thee, Jesus, my love, with my whole heart; I repent of having offended Thee. Never permit me to offend Thee again. Grant that I many love Thee always, and then do with me what thou wilt.

                                              Our Father....Hail Mary....Glory Be....

Lord Jesus, crucified,
Have mercy on us!

                                               Bruised, derided, cursed, defiled,
                                               She beheld her tender child,
                                               All with bloody scourges rent.
