Christus Vincit, Christus Regnat

While reading some poetry (again), I came across the following. Given our country's decline and problems from every corner, I thought it worth sharing.


WHERE ARE YOU GOING, GREATHEART?
                     John Oxenham

Where are you going, Greatheart,
With your eager face and your fiery grace?
   Where are you going, Greatheart?

"To fight a fight with all my might,
For Truth and Justice, God and Right,
To grace all Life with His fair Light."
   Then God go with you, Greatheart!

Where are you going, Greatheart?
"To beard the Devil in his den;
To smite him with the strength of ten;
To set at large the souls of men."
   Then God go with you, Greatheart!

Where are you going, Greatheart?
"To cleanse the earth of noisome things;
To draw from life its poison stings;
To give free play to Freedom's wings."
   Then God go with you, Greatheart!

Where are you going, Greatheart?
"To lift Today above the Past;
To make Tomorrow sure and fast;
To nail God's colors to the mast."
   Then God go with you, Greatheart!

Where are you going, Greatheart?
"To break down old dividing lines;
To carry out my Lord's designs;
To build again His broken shrines."
   Then God go with you, Greatheart!

Where are you going, Greatheart?
"To set all burdened peoples free;
To win for all God's liberty'
To 'stablish His sweet sovereignty."
   God goeth with you, Greatheart!

   To 'stablish His sweet sovereignty."  Yesterday, October 30, the last Sunday of October was the Feast of Christ the King in the traditional church calendar.  He is our King by right of birth and by right of conquest. The first by the personality of the Son of God, in His divine nature. The second as God-Man, coming down on earth to rescue fallen man by his sufferings, passion, death and resurrection.

Whatever our political stripe, we need to turn to the commands of God, the moral dictates that should shape our society. This is what we mean by the "Social" Kingship of Christ. In good conscience, we may not vote for those who oppose God's immutable laws. Our politicians who openly oppose those laws openly oppose God.

In the Epistle read in the Mass for the Feast of Christ the King (Paul to the Colossians, 1:12-20) is the following:    ".....for in Him were all things created in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible; whether thrones, or dominations, or principalities, or powers, all things were created by Him and in Him; and He is before all, and by Him all things consist, and He is the head of the body of the Church, Who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may hold the primacy because in Him it hath well-pleased the Father that all fullness should dwell; and through Him to reconcile all things unto Himself, making peace through the Blood of His cross, both as to the things on earth, and the things that are in heaven, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

 The Old Testament can be read as a pre-figuring of the New Testament. We take from the Psalms these words: (Psalm 71:8,11) "He shall rule from sea to sea, and from the river to the ends of the earth. And all kings shall adore Him, all nations shall serve Him."  and (Psalm 28: 10,11) "The Lord shall sit as King for ever; the Lord shall bless His people in peace."

In the Vespers of the day: (Psalm 116) Laudate Dominum: "O praise the Lord, all ye nations; praise Him, all ye people.  For His mercy is confimed upon us; and the truth of the Lord remaineth for ever."

Christus Vincit. Christus Regnat.    Christ conquers. Christ reigns.
