Second Amendment

Deus, in adjutorium meum intende. Domine, ad adjuvandum me festina.
O God, come to my assistance. O Lord, make haste to help me.

   Well, until the Good Lord causes wars to cease, even wars of governments upon their people, we have in the United States a guaranteed right to protect ourselves.  The current Administration is by no means the first, but one which is working mightily to take away that right, and will use the U.N. to make its case.

   I would like to offer some quotes from people who had a hand in giving us the right to bear arms, to defend ourselves from a tyrannical government if necessary, and to protect our lives and property from invaders.

   "The said Constitution should be never construed...to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens, from keeping their own arms."  Samuel Adams

   "And what country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are not wanred from time to time that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms."  Thomas Jefferson

   "The advantage of being armed is an advantage the Americans possess over people of almost every other nation...the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms."  James Madison  (and remember that this was in the 18th century, not the 21st)

   "A free people ought to be armed." George Washington

   ""Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed - as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword because the whole body of the people are armed."  Noah Webster

   "A militia...are in fact the people themselves...and are for the most part employed at home in their private concerns."  Richard Henry Lee

   "Who are the militia? They consist now of the whole people."  George Mason

Whether this is true today, or not, I don't know; but originally, every state had within its own constituion the affirmation of the individual right to bear arms. The men quoted above were all signers of the Declaration and/or the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. George Mason is called the Father of the Bill of Rights. One would think that the liberals who were so worried that our Federal Government was on the road to tyranny and a police state during the term of George Bush would be the first to champion the Second Amendment. But, of course, if you hear what they say and watch what they do these days, they are themselves leading us into tyranny.

Even Tom Paine, a Quaker, defended the rights of the individual to bear arms. Read a little paperback, "The Second Amendment," by David Barton. Read, in their own words, the intentions of the Founding Fathers.
